In some of the great creation discussions that have taken place among professing Christians, there is sometimes a tendency to focus more on the creation rather than the Creator. As a child who wanders too far into the woods and gets lost needs to find his way home to his parents, Psalm 8 serves as our guidepost home to our heavenly parent amidst the ‘forest’ of life we may sometimes get lost in. Psalm 8 was written to show two things as the focus – the glory of man as God’s creation and the glory and greatness of the God we serve.

In viewing the drama of life and our life experiences, our worldview is shaped by these things. It is from our worldview that our sense of justice comes. The Psalmist turns us to God’s standard of justice and His righteous judgment on sin in verses 9-17.

In our American culture, we long for justice often. Many go through legal means to get justice, some go through other means (i.e.- force, taking the law into their own hands). There is an “I want what I want when I want it” mindset that defines justice at times. Some would call this the ‘just us’ mentality. The Psalmist cries out for righteous justice from God, not from the perspective of self-righteousness, but from a pure heart and conscience.

In our country, there is a great emphasis on health care, but how often do we consider the health and well being of the soul? Psalm 6 considers the health of the soul as well as touches on things, which may affect the soul – and by proxy, the physical well being of the person.
